JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Applications Scientist at Moleculent, you will play a key role in executing spatial in situ assays on FFPE tissue sections. You will be responsible for lab processing, sample qualification, reagent handling, and operating imaging systems. This role is critical for Moleculent’s internal application studies and customer analysis service. We’re open to hiring at either a junior or a more senior level for this position.
Your responsibilities include:
- Perform FFPE tissue preparation and assay workflows according to validated SOPs
- Manage sample intake, documentation, and traceability in lab systems
- Operate and monitor imaging instruments to ensure correct execution of assay steps
- Perform quality control of samples and reagents
- Collaborate with Computational Biologists to ensure analysis-ready data
- Support workflow improvements and SOP development
- Maintain an organized, compliant, and well-functioning laboratory environment
- Coordinate weekly experimental planning with the Applications team
For a senior profile, the role also includes:
- Design and optimize multiplex in situ assays on tissue samples
- Drive Application Development studies and test new use cases
- Propose and troubleshoot protocols and controls in collaboration with assay, analysis, and product teams
- Provide scientific interpretation and reporting of experimental results
- Support validation and QC strategies for internal studies and customer datasets
- Coordinate sample tracking, reagent logistics, and experiment scheduling
QUALIFICATIONS
To fit the role, you have a BSc, MSc, or PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, molecular medicine, or another relevant scientific discipline. The ideal candidate has 2-5 years of experience in an application or R&D role within the life-science or biotech industries. Fluent written and spoken English and excellent computer skills are a requirement. It is important that you have extensive experience of laboratory work and enjoy working in a laboratory.
We believe you have:
- Hands-on experience with wet lab protocols, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), or in situ assays
- Experience working with valuable biological samples, following precise SOPs.
- Familiarity with assay development, including optimization, validation, troubleshooting, etc.
- Experienced in presenting generated data clearly and effectively in writing and oral presentations.
- Experience operating core lab instrumentation in general and imaging instruments in particular.
For a senior position, we are also looking for:
- PhD or equivalent experience in molecular biology, immunology, spatial biology, or a related field
- Proven experience with FFPE tissue processing and multiplex imaging techniques
- Ability to balance exploratory research and standardized workflows
- Experience in communicating with different stakeholders such as R&D, product, and commercial teams
